Frequently Asked Questions

At UKCK, we offer Kickboxing and Freestyle Wado-Ryu Karate. Kickboxing combines boxing with kicking and is great for fitness, self-defence, and competition. Karate classes focus on striking, self-control, and discipline. Karate is excellent for building coordination and confidence and offers students an insight into a traditional art.

We welcome students of all ages and skill levels. Our classes are grouped differently depending on the style. Our kickboxing classes are grouped as follows:

  • Little Dragons (Ages 4-6)
  • Junior Dragons (Ages 7-12)
  • Seniors (13+)

Whilst our Karate classes are open family classes which are open to multiple age groups, perfect for families who want to train together.

No at all! No prior experience is needed to get started. Our classes are beginner-friendly and designed to help you learn at your own pace. Whether you’ve never stepped on the mats before or you’re returning after a break, our instructors will guide you through the basics and make sure you feel comfortable every step of the way.

Everyone starts somewhere. All you need is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!

Yes, absolutely! We offer a free trial class so you can see if our club is the right fit for you. It’s a great way to experience the atmosphere, meet our instructors, and get a feel for the training style, no pressure, no commitment.

For our extra nervous visitors, we can offer a chance to come in and watch before having your trial lesson, but please contact us before this to arrange a suitable date.

Yes, we offer monthly membership options to suit different goals. We don’t believe in long-term contracts that lock you in, our goal is to keep you training because you love it, not because you’re tied to a contract.

Feel free to chat with us about our memberships and how they work.

For your first class, just wear something comfortable you can easily move in, like a t-shirt and joggers or gym leggings. Avoid anything with zips or buttons, as they can cause injury.

Regarding uniforms, we ask that members be fully uniformed prior to their first grade, which is usually after four months of training.

Most importantly, just bring a bottle of water and a good attitude, and we’ll take care of the rest!

Yes, absolutely. Safety is our top priority. Our kids’ classes are designed to be fun, structured, and age-appropriate, with a strong focus on discipline, respect, and controlled techniques.

All training is supervised by qualified instructors who make sure students learn in a safe and supportive environment. We also teach kids how to train responsibily, listen to their instructors, and respect their training partners.

UKCK has a strong history in attendance at competitions, with students winning titles and fighting for England. Currently, we focus on the student as an individual, and if this is something they’re interested in, we can offer opportunities to compete in local and regional tournaments. Competing is completely optional, but it’s a great way to challenge yourself, gain experience, and grow as a martial artist.

We provide extra training, such as our monthly Fight Club, for individuals interested in competing. From there, we can support students at every level, whether it’s their first match or they’re aiming for titles.

If competition is not your thing, that’s fine too; many of our members train purely for fitness, self-defence, or personal development.
